The Class Library

The Class Library is structured hierarchically much like the Windows file system.

Class objects are stored within folders in the class library from which you can derive all child objects - these are objects which you insert in your simulation models as well as other class objects which you develop. While modeling we recommend that you manage the class library efficiently from the start, creating folders and moving your objects to these folders. Doing so will facilitate quickly locating the objects and support maintaining existing models.

You will notice that the Class Library already contains a number of folders and objects. Plant Simulation holds a number of standard objects with which you build your models, including charts, tables, methods and material flow objects. Some of the more commonly used objects will be covered in the Basic Tutorial.

When creating a model, we recommend to create new folders for the objects of your model, rather than storing the objects within the existing folders. Otherwise the risk of changing standard objects inadvertently could have confusing and unpredictable effects.

To create a new folder, simply right-click with the mouse in the Class Library and select New > Folder and then rename the folder.

Another important part of Plant Simulation is the Toolbox which we cover in the next section.
